call on all of us to make poverty history.
On Friday, October 13 at noon, citizens of Sarnia will gather on the front steps of city hall to voice their belief in the possibility of a poverty-free Canada. Organized by Dignity for All, this annual event brings people together to call for a national strategy to end poverty.

Smile for the Food Bank

You can buy a smile cookie today at Tim Horton's (on campus or off) for $1 and enjoy a delicious cookie while knowing you're supporting our local food bank.

Our food bank right here on campus can always use support, too. It's moved to SAC this year, and we have dreams of making it bigger and better than ever. Donations are always welcome. (Things like taco kits, peanut butter, and instant oatmeal are always in demand.)

If you'd like to know more, stop by SAC or email us: socialjusticelambton@gmail.com

Empty Bowls 2017

This year marks the tenth anniversary
for Empty Bowls in Sarnia!
Join us on Friday, March 31 at the Lambton College Event Centre for a simple meal of soup and bread.

Thanks to local businesses who generously donate the food, almost all of the $25 Empty Bowls ticket price goes directly to supporting those who need food locally: proceeds from the event go to the Inn of the Good Shepherd and the Lambton College food bank.

This is the most difficult
decision of the night:
which bowl to choose?
There are two seatings (5pm and 7pm). Tickets are available online at www.theinnsarnia.ca

Tickets often sell out, and the 5pm seating is almost full, so order your tickets soon.

The $25 ticket includes your choice of beautiful handmade pottery bowl. Local potters donated their time to create these bowls.

Empty Bowls events take place around the world. The goal is to raise money and awareness to fight hunger.

Here is Aruba Mahmud of the SMA with more information on the event and the anti-oppression work she does in our community: http://www.sarniathisweek.com/2017/01/31/interfaith-solidarity-event-coming-to-sarnia-mosque

And here is Tara Jeffrey of The Sarnia Journal with some advice about how each of us can make our community a safer place to be: http://thesarniajournal.ca/you-can-do-something-to-counter-irrational-hatred/

If you have suggestions about how we might work together for a more peaceful and accepting community, please forward them. Thanks!
